I have never eaten better food than what Shibucho serves up. Shibucho is located in a not-so-nice neighborhood and appears shabby from the outside, but inside the hardwood interior is elegantly decorated with art, French wines, and ceramic cat statues. At the bar-like counter, patrons can watch as the masterful chefs slice the fresh fish as if it were warm butter and carefully, precisely create amazing sushi, sashimi, and other dishes. The primary chef and owner of Shibucho not only possesses a thorough knowledge of sushi but also a refined taste in expensive red wine, which he personally buys at auction. Eating at the bar-like counter, he may even prepare a delicious and unique dish without you even asking for it like his truly magnificent albacore sashimi salad. Remember to leave room for dessert; Shibucho offers up the tastiest of after dinner treats every night. From ripe cherrys and strawberries dipped in rich cream to cool fruit-adorned slices of pie, the desserts almost live up to the dinners. Although Shibucho is not cheap (I have racked up many a $100-plus bill there), it is worth fifty times every penny. No trip to Los Angeles should be without a visit to Shibucho on Beverly Blvd.
